We are looking for volunteers to help with the Pollinator Garden
From 9:00AM until 12:00PM
At Island Ford Visitor Center
8800 Roberts Drive, Sandy Springs, GA
Ray Steed, Chattahoochee National Park Conservancy / steedray@gmail.com
The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area and The Chattahoochee National Park Conservancy have partnered with Georgia Audubon to rejuvenate the area in front of the Visitor Center into a pollinator garden. Work will be supervised by Georgia Audubon but we need your help.
Connect with the Georgia Audubon staff to learn the importance of native plants and habitats for birds and other wildlife while helping to remove non-native weeds and other undesirable species from the garden space.
We plan to meet outside of the Visitor Center of the Island Ford unit of CRNRA (8800 Roberts Drive, Sandy Springs, GA 30350). There are parking spots available just outside the garden area, near the Visitor Center. CRNRA requires a $5 daily parking fee or the purchase of a $40 annual pass. The pollinator garden we will be working in is located just outside of the Visitor Center. Please note, that there are restrooms available for use inside the building.
What to bring?
- Water
- Dress according to the weather and the work being done; chance of encountering poison ivy, insects, arachnids, etc.
- Close-toed shoes - boots recommended
- Recommended but not required: sunglasses, binoculars (it's a great spot for birding!)
We have a limited amount of equipment, so if you are able to bring any of the following to use for yourself, that would be appreciated, however, we will have some extra for you to use.
- Work/garden gloves
- Hand shovel/trowel
What to expect?
After introductions, we will go over the specific tasks we will be working on in the garden and what makes a native pollinator garden so special and good for birds/the environment. The work will largely consist of weeding out invasive and undesirable plants from the space and tidying things up.
